DJ Henrickson, CFE, is the Controller at Blackford Capital, where he is responsible for the firm’s day-to-day finance operations and serves as a key financial resource to the Founder and senior leadership team. His responsibilities include accounting, banking and treasury, financial reporting, internal controls, and coordination with external financial partners. He joined Blackford in 2026 and brings nearly two decades of experience spanning public accounting, corporate finance, and strategic consulting
History & Education
Before joining Blackford, DJ built a diverse career in public accounting and consulting, as well as in private industries. Throughout his career, he has advised and supported organizations across a broad range of industries, with experience in financial reporting and analytics, tax strategies, valuations, operational improvements, internal controls, and business efficiencies. His background includes working with for-profit, not-for-profit, and governmental organizations, providing him with a broad perspective on financial and operational management.
A Michigan native, DJ earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Davenport University, where he studied Accounting and Finance and minored in Fraud. Following graduation, DJ served as an adjunct professor in accounting, finance, and business. He continues to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses, bringing real-world experience into the classroom and helping prepare the next generation of accounting and business professionals. He is passionate about translating complex accounting and financial concepts into practical, easy-to-understand insights, helping others better understand the information behind the numbers.
Outside of Work
Outside of work, DJ is a lifelong sports enthusiast who enjoys playing in a local softball league and coaching youth baseball and softball. He coaches his son’s travel baseball team and his daughter’s softball team. He also enjoys yard work, cooking, and spending time with family and friends
