Dennis Dunn is an Operating Partner at Blackford Capital. Dunn brings with him a wealth of private equity and operational experience and will serve as an operating partner on several Blackford Capital investments. Dunn will be leading Blackford’s investment activities on Snowhite, and will manage several future investments in our National Growth Practice, as Blackford continues to grow and acquire new companies.
Prior to joining Blackford Capital, Dennis founded D2 Equity Capital—a private equity investment firm based in San Diego, California. While at D2, Dennis led the execution of the firm’s lower middle-market acquisition strategy on behalf of family office investors.
Before founding D2 Equity Capital, Dennis served as Managing Director of Carlisle Enterprises, LLC, a San Diego-based private equity firm comprised primarily of former Fortune 500 operating executives. During his 21-year tenure at Carlisle, the firm acquired, or invested in, over 75 companies with aggregate revenues of over $5.0 billion. Dennis was actively involved in all phases of Carlisle’s acquisition program, which targeted middle and lower middle-market companies in industrial manufacturing and services, business services, and selected consumer segments.
Beginning in 2004, Dennis led the development and execution of Carlisle’s Small Business Initiative (“SBI”). The SBI was a strategy targeting businesses with revenues ranging from $10.0 million to $50.0 million, which leveraged the firm’s capabilities and experience with larger companies in its targeted industry sectors. Dennis served on several portfolio company boards during his time at Carlisle.
Prior to his private equity career, Dennis worked with McKinsey & Company, an international management consulting firm, and contributed to several strategic management, marketing, organizational, and internal operational improvement engagements. Dennis began his professional career with Conoco Inc., an international integrated energy company, in the company’s domestic oil and gas exploration division.
Mr. Dunn holds a B.S. in Administrative Science from Yale University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University. Prior to his professional career, Dennis was the starting quarterback of Yale University’s 1979 Ivy League Football Championship team, and subsequently participated in training camps for two NFL teams.
